ARCHITECTURE.
What's Important:
Working Conditions/Environment:
The things that I like best about this career is that there are hardly any health risks involved, and that you are never bound to one setting. Yes, it is true that most of your time is spent in a chair behind a desk in front of a computer or two, but there are many opportunities to move about. For example, meetings with clients are arranged anywhere that suits the client: coffee shops, their existing building, your office, etc. Once a project is under construction, frequent trips must be made throughout the process to ensure that everything is being constructed according to plan. These trips increase in frequency as the date of completion approaches. It is at this time that your usual fixed work hours are extended, and overtime is required.

"People have a lot of misconceptions coming into any creative work field. I had originally planned on being an architect, and had even gotten admission into the Syllabus Program. I ended up dropping out my second year due to the workload of school, and the fact that I had a wife and kid that I couldn't spend as much time with as I would've liked. I enrolled into SIAST to become an architectural technologist and so here I am. Looking back now, I'm not sure whether I made the right decision dropping out, but at the end of the day, this is my job.
The pros and cons are numerous. The biggest pro would have to be that it is a satisfying job, especially at the moment when you see your 2D drawing constructed into a life-size structure. The biggest con would have to be the lack of mobility during winter. I often find it difficult to sit in front of a computer for days on end.
As Reg often says, "I love my job, but it's not the love of my life."

Job Outlook:
Personally, I do believe that architects will remain in demand due to the fact that the need for space planning is continuous; there is always a neighbourhood being planned, or a new building being built. Look at it from this perspective: architecture has been in existence since prehistoric times, and therefore so have architects. The only thing that has changed about the work field is the expectations regarding the design, to which architects over time have conformed to and mastered. Today, the construction industry is a booming one, and although ups and downs can be expected, for any work field really, its existence will not falter.
"There will always be room for the best in the field. So always aim to be the best.
